Let's Meet the 2024 HP Engineering Interns!



Each year, HP Engineering welcomes a new group of talented interns who bring fresh perspectives and skills to our team. In this blog post, we introduce these exceptional individuals, offering a glimpse into their backgrounds, aspirations, and contributions to engineering. From innovative problem-solving to groundbreaking projects, join us in meeting the future leaders of the AEC field and discovering their incredible impact on the industry and their communities.





Luke Kelly is pursuing a degree in Architectural Engineering at Kansas State University. He is actively involved as a member of the Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI) and the K-State Ornithology Club.


Luke is proficient in Excel, Azure DevOps, MATLAB, SharePoint, Confluence, Teams, Outlook, and the use of executables. Known for his analytical thinking, he is also enthusiastic about learning new skills, ensuring his adaptability in the ever-evolving field of architectural engineering.


His previous work experience includes roles as a data collection coordinator, assistant building supervisor, and independent contractor assistant, providing him with valuable practical insights and hands-on experience.


Luke Kelly's combination of academic dedication, technical proficiency, and practical experience positions him for a successful career.

Best place traveled to? Between either Universal Orlando or Colorado on a hiking trip.


Best book recently read? I recently re-read The Hobbit which is one of my favorites.


Something he's proud of? Currently my weight lifting numbers on squat, bench press, and deadlift. Not proud enough yet to enter a powerlifting competition though.


Hidden talents or hobbies? I found that I keep getting more and more hobbies to fill my time, some of which include woodworking, wood burning, powerlifting, bird watching, mead making, solving rubik's cubes, juggling, and photography. I'm sure I will pick up a few more over the summer as well.


Currently binge-watching: I haven't had much time to binge watch any new shows lately but I am slowly rewatching the BBC Sherlock series.


What's on his playlist? So many things...my music is all over the place so my liked songs playlist goes from anything to Colter Wall to Mac Miller to movie scores.


Best advice ever received? It came from my old boss in construction but I try to apply it to everything in life - "Measure twice, cut once"





Emma Massey is a dedicated student at Kansas State University, majoring in Architectural Engineering. She excels in organization and time-management, and her exceptional communication and interpersonal skills enable her to thrive both independently and in team settings. Emma's self-motivation is evident in her active involvement in various organizations and her academic achievements.


At Kansas State, Emma is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta - Delta Eta, contributing to the Sisterhood Committee, and she is actively engaged with the Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI). During high school, she was a member of the National Honors Society, recognized for her academic excellence and community service. Additionally, Emma's passion for dance led her to become a two-time state dance team champion in 2021 and 2022 and a member of a competitive dance travel team.


Emma's diverse experiences and accomplishments reflect her commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and teamwork, positioning her for a promising future.

Historical figure he’d like to meet? Jesus


Something she's proud of? Placing 4th place at the national dance team competition in Orlando, Florida.


Hidden talents or hobbies? I enjoy kayaking, hiking, traveling and do spontaneous activities with my friends.


Currently binge-watching: Suits


What’s on her playlist? All things country music


Favorite memory? Traveling with my friends to Panama City beach and having late walks on beach and exploring the area together.


Best compliment she’s ever received? I am a light in every room I walk into.


Best advice she’s ever received? If you are not going to remember it in a year or two it's not something to stress about.


Three items would she take to a deserted island? My phone, water and a boat


If she could haunt one place for eternity, where would it be? Cardwell Hall on the Kansas State campus. It is the Math and Physics building where in the winter it feels like 100 degrees inside the building and in the summer, it feels like 50 degrees inside. It also smells awful and looks like it could fall down at any moment. Lets just say it's never a good time when you have to take a class in Cardwell.






Emerie McKelvey is an Electrical Engineering major at Oklahoma State University, where she is actively involved in both academic and extracurricular activities. As a dedicated member of the CEAT (College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology) Student Council, she has served as Member-at-Large and as the previous New Member Coordinator. Her leadership and commitment are also evident in her role within the Society of Women Engineers, where she was the 2022-2023 Executive of Member Engagement.


Emerie is skilled in C/C++, KiCad, SystemVerilog, Unix, Microsoft Suite, Circuit Design, and Analog Design. Her technical proficiency, coupled with her leadership experience, showcases her ability to excel in both collaborative and independent settings.


Emerie McKelvey's combination of academic excellence, leadership, and technical skills positions her for a promising career. Her involvement in key organizations and her dedication to her studies reflect her commitment to making a significant impact in her field.

Best concert? The Aces


Best place traveled to? Glacier National Park


Something she’s proud of? I’m proud of how much I’ve grown as a person, emotionally and mentally, since coming to college.


Hidden talents or hobbies? I love embroidery as well as hiking and camping!


Currently binge-watching: My roommate and I have been watching Rupaul’s Drag Race and Bridgerton together.


What’s on her playlist? Indie pop/rock, folk music, or 80s music.


Favorite memory? All the wonderful memories I have with my family, traveling in our RV!


Best compliment she’s ever received? I pride myself on my intentionality in my actions; one of my bosses at a past job, who I deeply admire, recognized how intentional I am with everything I do and everyone I meet and it really meant a lot to me.


Best advice she’s ever received? It seems a bit generic but treating those around you as you would want to be treated. Approaching everyone with grace and kindness before making any rash conclusions about them can and will take you far in life.


Three items would she take to a deserted island? Satellite phone, a knife, and a boat.


If she could haunt one place for eternity, where would it be? A haunted house at Halloween. Obviously the guests would be scared but so would the scare actors.





Reece Swanson is an Electrical Engineering major at the University of Oklahoma. Active in the Engineers Club, Reece demonstrates his commitment to both his field of study and his university community.


Reece possesses strong technical skills, including proficiency in MATLAB, Excel, C, Multisim, Eagle, and the Microsoft Office Suite. His problem-solving abilities, organizational skills, and critical thinking capabilities further enhance his engineering acumen.


Reece is particularly proud of two significant school projects. In one, he created a Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter using MATLAB to process audio signals, successfully isolating specific tunes. In another project, he developed a statistics program using C, enabling a company to perform statistical calculations efficiently.


Reece Swanson's combination of technical proficiency, practical experience, and dedication to his studies positions him for a successful career. His ability to apply his knowledge to real-world problems showcases his potential to make impactful contributions in his field.

Something he’s proud of? I hold pride in my academic achievements and the friendships I have built through my time at OU.
